Undergraduate Program

 

As part of the Foundation’s mission to develop leaders who transform the world, the Legacy Scholars Undergraduate Program provides leadership development opportunities and scholarships to full-time undergraduate students* pursuing an education at colleges or universities presently or historically affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Scholarship awards, which can be between $6000 and $9000 per academic year, are based on academic achievement as well as past, present, and potential leadership in their communities and academic environments.  In addition to the scholarship, the program includes two key elements  - the Annual Leadership Conference and the Volunteer Leadership Project- parts of a program that at its heart, addresses leadership, scholarship, service, and legacy.  (For information about the graduate seminary program, visit here.)

Leadership

Leadership programs such as the Annual Leadership Conference provide substantial opportunities to strengthen leadership skills, explore leadership models, connect with peers, and work with alum mentors who offer encouragement, support, and expertise. In the past years, undergraduate legacy scholars have gathered at retreat sites across Colorado, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and beyond to explore and strengthen leadership skills while working community with one another.

Scholarship

Renewable scholarship awards up to $9000 annually are made annually based on academic achievement as well as past, present, and potential leadership in their academic, professional, and community environments. Over the past 20 years, the Foundation has awarded undergraduate and graduate scholarships totaling over 3 million dollars in tuition assistance to over 300 students.

Service

Every Legacy Scholar develops and implements Volunteer Leadership Projects that address a significant community need and dramatically impact their campuses, their communities, and beyond. To date, over 500 projects, totaling over 2000 volunteer hours, have occurred - all to transform communities and make the world a better place.

Legacy

As part of their involvement with the program, scholars are also welcomed into the Phillips University family, learning the university’s history as well as beloved PU traditions such as buttoning and singing the Alma Mater. They know and work alongside alum mentors and volunteers who provide encouragement, support, and resources.
