As part of the Foundation’s mission to develop leaders who will transform the world, the Legacy Scholars program provides critical leadership development opportunities and scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing an education at colleges, universities, and theological institutions presently or historically affiliated with the Christian Church  (Disciples of Christ).

As part of our commitment to our mission and to the highest levels of ethics and drive to serve, the Legacy Foundation has earned and maintains a Gold Level Seal of Transparency through GuideStar (Candid) and a top-star rating through Charity Navigator, two external independent organizations committed to getting donors the information they need about nonprofits in order to do good.

How Does Your Giving Make A Difference?

 Leadership

Leadership programs such as the annual leadership conference provide substantial opportunities to strengthen leadership skills, explore leadership models, connect with peers, and work with alumni mentors who provide encouragement, support, and expertise.

Scholarship

Scholarship awards are made annually based on academic achievement as well as past, present, and potential leadership in their academic, professional, and community environments. Over the past 20 years, the Foundation has awarded undergraduate and graduate scholarships totaling over 2 million dollars in tuition assistance to over 220 students.

Service

Every legacy scholar develops and implements volunteer leadership projects that address a significant community need and dramatically impact their campuses, their communities, and beyond. To date, over 500 projects, totaling over 2000 volunteer hours, have occurred - all to transform communities and make the world a better place.

Legacy

As part of their involvement with the program, scholars are also welcomed into the Phillips University family, learning the university’s history as well as beloved PU traditions such as buttoning and singing the Alma Mater. They learn and work alongside alumni mentors and volunteers who provide encouragement, support, and resources.
