The Undergraduate Legacy Scholars Program

Since its beginning in 2001, the Legacy Scholars program has provided scholarship support and leadership development to over 300 students.  Today, the program provides merit-based renewable scholarships ranging from $6000 to $9000 annually and leadership development opportunities to full-time undergraduate students pursuing a full-time education at colleges or universities affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In addition to the scholarship, the Legacy Scholars program includes two key components - the Annual Leadership Conference and the Volunteer Leadership Project.

  • College or University Choice - Applicants should be planning to attend or already be attending a college/university that is currently or historically related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as listed in the denomination's Annual Yearbook.
  • Attendance - Applicants must apply as students who, in 2024-2025, will be incoming first-year college students (freshmen) and sophomores and who plan to attend full-time for at least the next three academic years with an approximate graduation date of December 2026 or May 2027.
  • Leadership Program—Applicants must be able and willing to participate fully in the Legacy Scholar Program's leadership and service components, including, but not limited to, the Annual Leadership Development Conference and the Volunteer Leadership Project. Please note that the annual leadership conference normally occurs from Thursday through Sunday the second weekend in October.

Scholarships are "merit-based," so while there is no minimum GPA, a strong academic record and outstanding recommendations are important. The Foundation's mission is to develop leaders who will transform the world, so applicants should also show involvement and leadership roles that show a desire to learn, be challenged, and make a positive impact on their campuses or communities. Review the Program Profile for general eligibility, criteria, and more details.
